Whimsical bird-shaped hotel entered Guinness World Records: Why and what it looks like
Ricardo Cano Gwapo decided to build a hotel that would amaze all tourists. And he succeeded because his building is shaped like a... rooster. Additionally, this hotel has been entered into the Guinness World Records as the largest building in the world shaped like a bird.
What this hotel is, where it is located, and what it looks like, according to the Guinness World Records.
The building in the shape of a giant bird is located in the quiet town of Campuestohan, in Western Negros, Philippines. This Campuestohan Highland Resort is a unique getaway, built according to the owner’s original design.
"I am a dreamer and wanted to create the unthinkable. I had a vision to make something with a wow factor that can really leave a footprint of admiration to the public," said Ricardo Cano Guapo Tan.
He launched his project, and it took six months for planning and conceptualization. Construction began on June 10, 2023.
The rooster-shaped hotel features 15 rooms with air conditioning, large comfortable beds, big TVs, and hot showers. The rooms are perfect for a getaway with a partner, friends, or family.

Designing the building with such a unique shape proved to be a challenging task, as it had to withstand storms and typhoons, which are very common in the region. However, the construction was completed in 456 days.
"Negros Occidental has a gamefowl industry that employs millions of people in the Philippines. If you look at a rooster, it looks calm and commanding, imposing and strong which reflects the attitude of our people," Ricardo explained why he chose this bird.
He added that the rooster can withstand strong winds and pressure from other roosters. This symbolizes the people’s resilience and their ability to quickly recover from any life challenges.
Ricardo’s wife, Nita, bought the land for the hotel many years ago. In 2010, the site was cleared, and despite the lack of proper roads and electricity in the area, Ricardo started building the resort there.

Today, the resort boasts a massive wave pool, a large restaurant, a café, three swimming pools, hotel rooms, Bonita cottages, hundreds of dinosaur sculptures, and cartoon/Marvel figurines. Of course, it also features the largest building in the shape of a rooster, which has become a landmark and a source of pride for both Ricardo's family and the local community.
"I feel proud and humbled at the same time. I'm proud to have put my province and my home country on Guinness World Records. Humbled as I am from a poor upbringing where I had to work as a shoeshine boy to earn a living and go to school. I have made my family, my province and my country proud," Ricardo added.
