The National Olympic Committee (NOC) has approved the official delegation of Ukraine for the 2024 Olympics, which will take place from July 26 to August 11. A total of 297 individuals will travel to Paris.

This group includes not only athletes but also coaches and support staff, including:

  • 140 athletes;
  • 12 sparring partners and alternate athletes;
  • 95 coaches;
  • 24 doctors, masseurs, and other specialists;
  • 4 drivers;
  • 16 members of the national team's headquarters;

NOC President Vadym Gutzeit stated that the number of athletes at the 33rd Olympic Games (OG) will be the smallest in Ukraine's history of participation in the Games. The previous lowest number was 155 athletes at the last Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

The national football team will participate in the OG for the first time since Ukraine's independence. Additionally, Ukrainians will compete in the debut sport of the 2024 Games – breakdancing.

Olympic stars from Ukraine: who is going to Paris for new medals

Most of the participants in the upcoming Games in Paris have yet to win Olympic medals. However, the Ukrainian team includes some true sports stars who already have medals from one or even several previous Olympics.

Fencer Olga Kharlan is heading to the Olympics for the fourth time. Her medal collection includes a team gold in 2008, a team silver in 2016, and individual bronze medals in 2012 and 2016. Kharlan was allowed to participate in the Paris Olympics despite her disqualification at the World Championships in Italy, where the Ukrainian athlete refused to shake hands with a Russian competitor.

Zhan Beleniuk will represent Ukraine in Greco-Roman wrestling and will attempt to replicate his success from the last Olympics in Tokyo, where he won gold. Beleniuk also competed in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, securing a silver medal for Ukraine.

Gymnast Oleg Verniaiev is returning to Olympic competition after a hiatus. He missed the Tokyo Games due to a suspension related to a doping case. Verniaiev is a medalist from the 2016 Rio Olympics, winning gold in the parallel bars and silver in the all-around.

Olena Kostevych first competed in the Olympics 20 years ago and has participated in five Games overall. At the 2004 Athens Olympics, the then-19-year-old athlete won gold in the 10m air pistol event. Kostevych later earned two bronze medals in London in 2012 (10m and 25m air pistol). At the 2020 Tokyo Games, she secured another bronze in the 10m mixed team event with Oleh Omelchuk.

Track and field athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh heads to the Paris Games following a recent triumph. The Ukrainian managed to break the world record in the high jump, which had stood for 37 years, achieving a height of 2.1 meters. Repeating this jump at the 2024 Olympics could very well earn her the gold medal. At the previous Games in Tokyo, Mahuchikh won bronze with a jump of 2 meters, while the gold went to Russia's Mariya Lasitskene, who cleared 2.04 meters.

Judoka Daria Bilodid will aim to surpass her success from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where she won a bronze medal in the 48 kg weight category. At the Paris Games, Bilodid will compete in the 57 kg category, holding the title of European Judo Champion for 2024.

Olympic champions from the 2012 London Games in rowing, Nataliia Dovgodko and Anastasiya Kozhenkova, are heading to Paris to replicate their success. They will compete in a quartet with Daryna Verkhogliad and Kateryna Dudchenko.

Elina Svitolina, the world No. 3 from 2017-2019 and multiple WTA tournament winner, will participate in the Olympics for the second time. The Ukrainian tennis star previously won bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Swimmer Mykhailo Romanchuk has also made the Ukrainian team for the second time. At the Tokyo Olympics, he earned bronze in the 800m freestyle and silver in the 1500m freestyle.

Lyudmyla Luzan, a canoe sprint athlete, is only missing an Olympic gold in her collection. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, she won a bronze medal in the women's C-1 200m and a silver medal in the women's C-2 500m with Anastasiia Chetverikova. France will be Luzan's chance to become an absolute Olympic champion.

Boxer Oleksandr Khyzhniak (80 kg category) has qualified for the Olympics for the second time. The previous Olympics earned him a silver medal.

Parviz Nasibov will compete in the 67 kg category of Greco-Roman wrestling at the 2024 Olympics. He already became an Olympic medalist in Tokyo, winning silver.

Iryna Koliadenko will compete in freestyle wrestling in the 62 kg category in Paris. The Ukrainian athlete is a three-time European champion and won bronze four years ago at the Tokyo Olympics.

In synchronized swimming, twin sisters Maryna and Vladyslava Aleksiyiva will represent Ukraine in the duet program. The athletes are champions of the 2023 European Games, European champions, and silver medalists of the 2022 World Championship. At the Tokyo Olympics, the sisters won bronze for Ukraine in the team event.

Gymnast Ihor Radivilov will participate in the vault event at the 2024 Olympics. He is already a bronze medalist from the 2012 London Olympics in the vault. An element of men's gymnastics—the Radivilov vault—is named after him. Radivilov has won medals at European Championships and World Cups and competed in the Tokyo Olympics, finishing 7th in the team event.
