Skipping breakfast and dinner can seriously harm your health — from heart problems to metabolic disorders. Dr. Neena Chandrasekaran, who specializes in pulmonary and intensive care medicine, explains how these meals affect your well-being.

According to the doctor, skipping breakfast on its own is associated with obesity, hypertension, otosclerosis, and insulin sensitivity disorders. The reason lies in the fact that adrenaline levels are highest in the morning. If this is combined with a lack of food and calorie intake, the body starts to release more and more adrenaline, which is a sympathetic hormone.
In turn, this makes the heart work faster, causing the body to produce additional radicals that can lead to the hardening of arteries.
A reduced amount of food during the day can lead to increased hunger at night, which often results in eating larger portions later on. This habit can ultimately contribute to obesity.
A study showed that skipping breakfast is associated with an increased risk of morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular diseases, as well as all-cause mortality. Data was reviewed regarding the connection between skipping breakfast and the potential risk of cardiovascular morbidity and death from various causes.
The strength of the link varied across studies, but overall, people who skip breakfast may be at greater risk of negative health outcomes compared to those who eat breakfast regularly.
People who regularly skip breakfast are about 21% more likely to suffer from cardiovascular diseases.

Without a regular intake of nutrients, the brain and body function worse. It also often leads to intense hunger and overeating, especially of unhealthy foods.

Glucose spikes can cause weakness, dizziness, irritability, and even loss of consciousness in some cases.
