What happens to your body if you eat apples every day
All fruits have nutritional benefits, and apples are no exception. One large apple contains five grams of fiber and a variety of other essential nutrients, including calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, vitamin C, and vitamin A.
RBC-Ukraine explains what happens if you eat apples every day, citing Parade.com.
What you need to know about apples
When consumed regularly, the nutrients in apples can benefit your body. If you replace a non-nutritious snack with an apple daily, you're likely to notice a difference. Registered dietitians have identified five ways daily apple consumption impacts the body.
Your digestive system will function better
Dietitian Mia Syn explains that your gut particularly benefits from a daily apple-eating habit. Apples are a good source of fiber, which is crucial for digestive health, as fiber helps food move through the digestive system. Dietitian Alyssa Bosse adds that the fiber in apples aids digestion and actively prevents constipation.
Apples are also a source of a special type of fiber called prebiotics. Prebiotics serve as food for beneficial bacteria in the gut.
Eating apples daily can help lower LDL cholesterol levels
Dietitians suggest that the soluble fiber in apples is linked to reducing LDL cholesterol levels.
LDL cholesterol is sometimes referred to as bad cholesterol because having too much of it in your blood can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
One scientific study found that adults with moderately high cholesterol levels who consumed two apples a day experienced a significant reduction in LDL cholesterol levels, thereby lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Apples promote healthy weight loss
If weight loss is one of your health goals, eating an apple daily may benefit you. This is because the fiber in apples helps you feel full, meaning you're likely to eat less compared to snacking on non-nutritious foods like chips or pastries.
A scientific study found that overweight women who snacked on three apples (or pears) a day lost more weight over 12 weeks than overweight women who snacked on oatmeal cookies.
Apples reduce the risk of certain types of cancer
Scientific research shows a link between apple consumption and a reduced risk of certain types of cancer. This is due to the high antioxidant content in apples.
Antioxidants protect the body from harmful free radicals, which are unavoidable. Apples contain the antioxidant quercetin, which is particularly effective at reducing inflammation and supporting the immune system. Research published in 2020 also showed that quercetin might have anti-cancer effects.
Apples lower the risk of diabetes
Despite the natural fructose (fruit sugar) content, eating an apple a day is associated with a reduced risk of developing type 2 diabetes. In a scientific study involving 10,000 people, those who regularly ate apples were less likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those who did not regularly consume apples.
