West has 100 Patriots but is unable to transfer 7 which are very much needed - Borrell
Ukraine is desperately pleading for seven Patriot missile systems for its cities, but the EU is unable to provide them, according to the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell.
He revealed that a few days ago he spoke with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who is desperately requesting seven Patriot battery systems for Ukraine's defense.
"It should be inconceivable that we were not able to provide them, given that the Western armies have about 100 batteries of Patriot. And still, we are not able to provide the seven they are asking desperately for," Borrell said.
Air defense in Ukraine
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine has a certain stockpile of missiles for air defense, but under high-intensity shelling, they might run short.
Although he also said that Ukraine lacks air defense. According to the president, this could lead to them (Ukrainian Armed Forces) relying not on Ukrainians but on NATO troops to defend their eastern flank.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock hopes that before the meeting of G7 foreign ministers, it will become clear who can provide Ukraine with additional air defense funds.
