The United Kingdom has reported an increase in Russian submarine activity to Cold War levels. Defense Secretary John Healey warned the Kremlin that the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy are "hunting their submarines" in the North Atlantic, according to BBC.

Healey addressed Russian dictator Vladimir Putin directly.

"We are hunting your submarines," he said.

Healey noted that the number of Russian vessels threatening British waters has increased by 30%.

According to the minister, this indicates an escalation of "Russian aggression right across the board," which affects Europe, not just Ukraine.

The Ministry of Defence claims that Russian submarine activity in the North Atlantic has returned to Cold War levels. The Royal Air Force and Royal Navy have strengthened their presence in the North Atlantic, where Russian submarines are most active. RAF missions are carried out almost daily, sometimes around the clock, often with support from other NATO allies.

It is worth noting that recently it became known that a network linked to Russian intelligence had, for nearly ten years, involved British companies in the involuntary development of Russian Arctic submarines.

The network bypassed sanctions and export controls to acquire sensitive technologies and research vessels from Europe, the US, Canada, and Japan worth over €50 million between 2014 and 2024.

It was also reported that the Danish company Rockwool recently sold ship insulation to Russia, which was used in three of the Russian navy’s most advanced submarines.
