The war between Ukraine and Russia must come to an end through negotiations and the renunciation of nuclear weapons by the country labeled as a terrorist, according to an interview of the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Ivan Havryliuk with Tagesspiegel.

As explained by Havryliuk, all wars in the world conclude with negotiations, and the war between Ukraine and Russia should not be an exception.

He added that during the signing of any document, Russia must renounce nuclear weapons. The war will end with the return of all territories to Ukraine; however, it is essential to create a mechanism preventing a repeated attack by the enemy.

"Agreements will be signed - on one side by the coalition of states supporting Ukraine, and on the other side by Russia. And this document must include a provision for Russia's renunciation of nuclear weapons because this state poses a threat to peace," explained the Deputy Minister of Defense.

Negotiations with Russia

In 2022, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy adopted an NSDC decision stating the impossibility of negotiations with dictator Vladimir Putin.

To resume negotiations, Russia must:

  • Completely withdraw from the territory of Ukraine.
  • Change its political elite.
  • Acknowledge war crimes.
  • Extradite the organizers of the war to the tribunal.
