War crimes of Russia: Two captured Ukrainian soldiers executed
Fighters of the Russian Federation today, on December 2nd, executed two Ukrainian military personnel who surrendered in captivity, according to the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets.
"Today, a video appeared online of Ukrainian soldiers being executed by Russian military personnel while surrendering! This is another violation of the Geneva Conventions and a display of disrespect for international humanitarian law! The Russian side once again shows its face as a terrorist!" emphasized Lubinets.
He stated that based on this evidence, as the Ukrainian ombudsman, he will address: The International Committee of the Red Cross, whose mandate includes documenting crimes against prisoners of war.
"And in the video, it is clearly seen that Ukrainian soldiers are taking necessary steps indicating their surrender! The soldiers were disarmed, and their hands were raised. They posed no threat! The Russian side should have taken them captive and granted them the status of prisoners of war," he underscored.
Lubinets will also appeal to the United Nations to have the UN's permanent monitoring mission document this incident as another vivid example of Russia's violation of international humanitarian law.
"Russia must be held accountable for every such case of the execution of Ukrainian soldiers who surrender! I will point out that these are not isolated incidents – this is the killing of fighter Oleksandr Matsiyevsky and other soldiers who surrendered. This includes the public execution of prisoners of war in Olenivka!" noted the ombudsman.
Execution of a Ukrainian soldier after saying "Glory to Ukraine"
This is not the first time that the Russian Federation has violated norms and customs of war. On April 11, a video surfaced online showing Russian occupiers brutally executing a Ukrainian soldier.
Later, the Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, stated that Ukrainian intelligence had preliminarily identified the individuals among the Russians who killed our military.
Soon after, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is responsible for his soldiers brutally executing a Ukrainian military personnel.
