Vietnam declares US as its strategic partner after Putin's visit
Vietnam considers the United States its strategic partner in economic and investment matters, says Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.
Recently, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink arrived in Vietnam. He met with the Vietnamese Foreign Minister.
"Vietnam stands ready to work with the United States to advance a comprehensive strategic partnership for effective, stable, and meaningful development based on respect for each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political institutions," Bui Thanh Son said after the meeting.
At the same time, Kritenbrink reaffirmed the US commitment to supporting "a strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam."
It is also interesting that Mr. Kritenbrink arrived in Vietnam just a day after Russian leader Vladimir Putin visited the country. His visit resulted in the signing of more than a dozen agreements on bilateral cooperation in education, medicine, energy, and defense.
