Vaseline for skin: Dermatologist's tips and advice
The skin is the largest organ of the body, so it is important to take good care of it. There's no need to buy expensive, heavily advertised cosmetics, as there is an affordable remedy – Vaseline, which has many beneficial properties, according to dermatologist Viktoriia Akhtarniia.
Benefits of vaseline
Lip moisturizer
Use Vaseline as a moisturizer for lips and even eyelids during the cold season when they are dry and flaky. It is best to apply it on damp lip skin.
If you have superficial wounds or scratches, apply Vaseline to prevent the wound from drying out and the scab from cracking. This will help the healing process proceed faster and without scarring.
Hand cream
Vaseline can also be used as an emollient or moisturizing cream. The only downside is that not everyone will like the excessive greasiness, and it doesn't always work well because it only creates an occlusive layer and does not always provide sufficient hydration.
The dermatologist said that if your thighs chafe when walking or you frequently get blisters on your feet, apply Vaseline to these areas before going outside. Runners or cyclists often use it before competitions.
Additionally, it can be used for diaper dermatitis to reduce contact between feces and the skin. It should be applied to the baby's skin after changing a diaper.
Nail care
Apply Vaseline to the cuticles and nails for guaranteed moisture and care.
Also, Vaseline will help if you have rough patches on your feet, elbows, and knees. Just apply a thick layer of the product on your feet and put on socks. Creams with 30-40% urea will remove roughness better, but they are more expensive.
Eyebrow styling
You can apply a bit of Vaseline to your eyebrows to style them.
Another trick is that if your lipstick always gets on your teeth, you can take a bit of Vaseline and apply it to your front teeth.
The dermatologist also shared her life hack: she rubs Vaseline on her purse to make the hinges shine.
