Jennifer, the wife of US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, has become his most influential advisor within the US Department of Defense. Moreover, she exerts influence over a wide range of processes at the Pentagon, according to The New York Times.

For many years, Jennifer served as her husband's producer at Fox News while he was building his career in television.

"Now, seven years into their marriage, she is his most influential adviser and his de facto producer at the Pentagon. She has prepped him for appearances, sat in on his meetings with journalists, interviewed potential members of his staff and brainstormed ideas for the Defense Department videos he — and sometimes she — appears in," the agency writes.

Moreover, in August 2026, Hegseth's wife took on a new role—she became the chair of the US President's Commission on Military Affairs.

According to journalists, this is an unpaid position in which she will work to improve the lives of military families.

The media notes that Jennifer Hegseth stood behind President Donald Trump in the Oval Office when he announced this initiative.

In 2025, she participated in a highly sensitive meeting with her husband and senior officials from the British Ministry of Defense after the United States temporarily suspended the exchange of military intelligence with Ukraine.

"The British spoke in general terms, the official said, because the presence of Mrs. Hegseth made them uneasy. Later they had a smaller meeting, without her, to go into detail," the NYT reports.

According to media reports, Jennifer Hegseth's involvement in the operations of the US Department of Defense is so unusual that it has already raised questions about the department head’s leadership within his own agency.

"It’s bonkers that a defense secretary would involve his wife in his sensitive official duties, including sharing details of an impending military operation, and face zero consequences," says John Ullyot, who resigned as the Pentagon's chief spokesperson after three months under Hegseth's leadership.

US media reported that a conflict had arisen between Trump and Hegseth over a missile shortage in the US.

The Pentagon chief also fired a top US general who was responsible for aid to Ukraine.
