US to impose sanctions on Russia's Gazprombank, Nikkei reports
The administration of US President Joe Biden is considering adding Gazprombank to the sanctions list. It is the third largest bank in Russia by assets, according to the Nikkei.
The agency notes that Gazprombank is a hub for gas payments between Russia and Europe.
According to the agency's sources, Gazprom will be banned from any transactions with American banks. The decision on sanctions may be made by the end of November.
The sources say that the United States has even informed its G7 partners about this.
Sanctions against Russia
During the meeting, the G7 countries agreed that Russia is the only obstacle to peace in Ukraine.
At the same time, the United States decided to investigate Russian clients in Switzerland's largest bank. The situation changed after the purchase of Credit Suisse, which strengthened control over one of the world's largest asset managers.
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom announced the introduction of the largest package of sanctions against Russia's shadow fleet of oil tankers.
