US to impose new sanctions on Iran
Following Iran's aerial attack on Israel, the United States, in collaboration with allies, is crafting a fresh package of sanctions, according to the White House.
The sanctions will target Iran's missile and drone programs, as well as entities associated with the Iranian Ministry of Defense.
"The United States will impose new sanctions targeting Iran, including its missile and drone program as well as new sanctions against entities supporting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran’s Defense Ministry," the White House stated.
According to the White House, these new sanctions and other restrictions will continue to exert sustained pressure aimed at restraining and diminishing Iran's military capability and effectiveness.
"The pressure will continue. We will not hesitate to continue to take action, in coordination with allies and partners around the world, and with Congress, to hold the Iranian government accountable for its malicious and destabilizing actions," the White House said.
Sanctions against Iran
Over the past three years, in addition to sanctions related to missiles and drones, the United States has imposed sanctions on over 600 individuals and entities associated with terrorism, terrorism financing, and support for proxy terrorist groups, including Hamas, Hezbollah, and Houthis.
It was previously reported that the US Congress approved a series of bills aimed at exerting financial pressure on Iran.
Besides, according to The Financial Times, the EU is discussing new sanctions against Iran in response to the strikes on Israel.
