The administration of US President Donald Trump supports providing Ukraine with the air defense systems it needs to repel massive Russian attacks, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce says.

According to her, the United States is Ukraine's biggest supporter and defender.

"We want them to be able to deal with incoming missiles. We know that it’s been discussed about our European partners, who have those systems, to – from us to get them to Ukraine. There’s a number of different negotiations and aspects involved in this kind of dynamic that does not involve the State Department. It’s about munitions and purchasing and all of that," Bruce said.

She noted that the United States is committed to seeing the war in Ukraine end.

"The details of which are many, and I can’t speak to that, and I certainly would dispute that we are not letting Ukraine do something. The opposite has always been the case. Our goal is to make sure that this war comes to an end, and we continue to focus on that," the State Department spokesperson said.

Air defense for Ukraine

In the summer of 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine needed 25 Patriot air defense systems to completely close its airspace.

Already this year, he said that Ukraine is ready to purchase $30-50 billion worth of weapons and air defense systems from the United States. In particular, he talked about purchasing 10 Patriot systems or obtaining a license for their production.

In April, Zelenskyy said that he had instructed the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to try to reach an agreement with the United States on the purchase of Patriots.

Recently, however, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is still waiting for the US to respond to the offer to buy the air defense systems.
