US Senator Graham: If Putin is playing Trump, he will regret it

US President Donald Trump will attempt to convince Russian leader Vladimir Putin to sit down at the negotiating table to achieve a ceasefire for Ukraine. However, if the Kremlin leader tries to deceive Trump, he will regret it, informs CBS News, citing US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.
A journalist asked Senator Graham if he had any reason to believe that President Trump would sign a law imposing additional sanctions on Russia, considering Trump has yet to impose serious sanctions on the country. Graham responded that Trump is likely waiting for the results of discussions led by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
“I think Trump's going to talk to Putin this week. You can't solve a problem until you talk the- to the person who's creating the problem. And the problem is Putin. He's a predator toward Ukraine and the region at large,” he explained.
At the same time, the senator expressed hope that Trump could convince Putin to come to the negotiating table.
“I hope President Trump can convince Putin to go to the peace table, to engage in a ceasefire, and to find a win, win solution for both countries to stop the killing. You'll never know until you try. And there's one person on the planet capable of doing that, and that is President Trump. If Putin is playing Trump, he will regret it,” Graham emphasized.
Earlier today, Witkoff announced that a conversation between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to take place next week.
On March 13, Witkoff visited Moscow to deliver a US proposal to Putin for a 30-day ceasefire.
His visit was scheduled after US-Ukrainian talks in Saudi Arabia on March 11. During those talks, a 30-day ceasefire on the frontlines in Ukraine was agreed upon.
