US Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated Russians on the so-called Russia Day "on behalf of the American people", according to the US Department of State.

In his greeting, Rubio stated that the United States "remains committed to supporting the Russian people, who continue to pursue their aspiration for a better future."

"We also take this opportunity to reaffirm the United States’ desire for constructive engagement with the Russian Federation to bring about a durable peace between Russia and Ukraine. It is our hope that peace will foster more mutually beneficial relations between our countries," he added.

US attempts to stop the war in Ukraine

Over the past few months, the United States has held a number of separate meetings with representatives of Russia and Ukraine with the aim of resolving the full-scale war. During one of the meetings, Washington proposed to Kyiv the introduction of a complete ceasefire, which Ukraine immediately supported. In response, the Kremlin began to whine and put forward its own conditions.

After that, Russia initiated a number of so-called ceasefires on the front line. However, not once did it adhere to the ceasefire regime and continued nightly shelling of Ukrainian territory.

As President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted, dictator Vladimir Putin only negotiates with Ukraine under the threat of new sanctions.
