US Secret Service shoots armed man near White House

US Secret Service officers shot an armed man near the White House. The incident occurred after the suspect brandished a weapon, reports Chief of Communications for the United States Secret Service Anthony Guglielmi.
On the morning of March 9, in Washington DC, a man was fatally shot during an armed confrontation involving law enforcement and the US Secret Service.
The incident followed a report from local police about a potential suicide threat. Authorities had been alerted to a person who was possibly traveling to Washington from Indiana.
Late Friday night, around midnight, Secret Service officers spotted a parked vehicle and noticed a person matching the description walking nearby.
As officers approached, the suspect began waving a firearm, leading to an armed confrontation. Secret Service officers opened fire during the encounter.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital, but his condition remains unknown. According to Secret Service officials, several of their officers sustained injuries during the altercation.
The incident is now under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department Internal Affairs Division's Force Investigations Team, which reviews cases involving the use of force by law enforcement officers in Washington.
Last year, an assassination attempt occurred in Pennsylvania during a rally supporting US President Donald Trump.
After a sound resembling a gunshot, Trump touched his ear and fell to the ground. The Secret Service quickly evacuated him from the stage. According to CNN, the shooter was likely positioned on a rooftop outside the rally venue.
