US ready to protect Israel from ballistic missile and drone attacks by Islamist groups
US President Joe Biden has confirmed Washington's readiness to support Israel's defense against terrorist Islamic movements in the Middle East, according to the White House website.
It is noted that Biden held discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. During the talks, the President reaffirmed his commitment to Israel's security against all threats from Iran, particularly its proxy terrorist groups Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis.
Biden also discussed efforts to support Israel’s defense against threats, including ballistic missiles and drones, including new US defensive military deployments.
Additionally, the US President emphasized to Netanyahu the importance of efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region. This call for de-escalation was also supported by Vice President and potential Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
Threat of a large-scale war in the Middle East
Following the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran by the Israeli army and the commander of Hezbollah, Fuad Shukra, in Beirut, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has announced a direct military strike against Israel.
Media reports suggest that Iran and its proxies might launch a massive attack on Israel within the next 72 hours.
