The United States is actively pushing for a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia to be reached within the first 100 days of Donald Trump's presidency, according to CNN.

One European official told CNN why the US is trying to speed up the peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia. In his opinion, this is related to the fact that the first 100 days of Donald Trump’s presidency are coming to an end. His administration is aiming to achieve peace before this term expires.

The official made this statement against the backdrop of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio skipping an important meeting in London focused on ending the war.

“There are a lot of moving parts currently, but one thing is clear, the feeling that the US are pushing for that deal within 100 days,” the official said.

The outlet adds that the peace plan being promoted by the US for ending the war involves recognizing Russia's control over Crimea, a step that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already said he will not accept.

“It is difficult to see (Crimea) in any deal other than it remains as it is now. But it is clearly difficult for Zelenskyy,” the official told CNN.

Therefore, the US peace proposal is under threat.

Trump's 100th day in office falls on Tuesday, April 29.

US peace plan

Earlier, Western media reported that the US had prepared its own seven-point peace plan to end the war in Ukraine.

It turns out that this plan contradicts Ukraine’s position and allegedly involves concessions on territory and NATO. Just yesterday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine would not recognize Crimea or other occupied territories as Russian.

Today, US President Donald Trump criticized Zelenskyy's statement on Crimea.
