Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina lost in the third round of the US Open to the home-court favorite, Jessica Pegula, according to the match result.

US Open, 3rd round, women's singles

Svitolina – Pegula – 2:1 (4:6, 6:4, 2:6)

The crucial point in the first set was the fifth game. The Ukrainian and her American opponent confidently earned points on their serves before and after that game. However, with the score at 2:2, Pegula converted a break point on her third attempt. This was enough for her to win the set.

Svitolina retaliated in the next set. This time, the opponents played evenly until the very end. The suspense lasted until the tenth game. The Ukrainian tennis player secured a 5:4 lead by breaking Pegula's serve and closing the set.

However, in the decisive set, Svitolina struggled. She made two crucial errors midway through the group, allowing the American to break her serve twice. Pegula had too solid an advantage to let it slip away. Ultimately, Svitolina ended the match with only two points won.

In the next round, the world's third-ranked player will face an American derby against Madison Keys. The match is scheduled for September 3rd.
