US may send troops and equipment to Mexico border - WP
The US government is preparing to send thousands of additional troops to the US-Mexico border. Stryker armored vehicles may also be sent there, Washington Post reports.
According to an anonymous US official, the US Army intends to send about 1000 troops to the border with Mexico.
The official did not say when the deployment would take place but said they would join thousands of National Guard troops already on the border, following US President Donald Trump's national emergency declaration.
Trump has repeatedly promised to carry out the largest deportation in US history.
Preparing for a potential influx, Mexico has begun construction of giant tent shelters in the city of Ciudad Juarez as part of the government's plan to set up centers in nine cities in the north of the country.
However, local official Enrique Licón described the plans as "unprecedented," as shelters are expected to be ready to receive thousands of people in a matter of days.
Yesterday, US President Donald Trump ordered the Department of Defense to prepare a plan for troops to support the border mission.
The order followed the declaration of a state of emergency on the border with Mexico.
It is worth noting that Trump began his first day in office by signing a number of decrees. They are concerned with energy, immigration policy, and national security. He also canceled a number of decisions of the Joe Biden administration.
