US lawmakers push for mandatory drug testing of Elon Musk and DOGE team

Democrats in the US House of Representatives are introducing a bill that would require the Head of DOGE Elon Musk to undergo drug testing, Axios reports.
According to Representative Mikie Sherrill, who referenced a 2024 Wall Street Journal report, Musk allegedly used illegal drugs in the past, including LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, mushrooms, and ketamine.
At the same time, the billionaire's lawyers claim that the Head of DOGE "regularly and randomly drug tested at SpaceX and has never failed a test."
Under the bill authored by Sherrill, certain federal officials would be required to take a drug test before starting work and participate in a random testing program. Those who test positive would be barred from federal service for at least a year.
"Those with access to sensitive information must be thoroughly vetted, clear-eyed, and exercise good judgment," the congresswoman stated.
Incidents involving Musk
Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, has repeatedly drawn attention for his statements and actions related to drug use. The most well-known incident occurred in 2018 when, during a live interview with Joe Rogan, he smoked marijuana. This sparked controversy, especially among Tesla investors, since the company is publicly traded and marijuana remains illegal at the federal level in the US.
In addition, Musk has frequently joked about drug use on social media, hinting at the use of LSD and other psychedelics.
Musk currently heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). As President Donald Trump recently stated, at "some point," the department will cease to exist.
