On the night of July 13, the United States, acting on orders from President Donald Trump, launched another series of strikes against Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, US Central Command (CENTCOM) reports.

According to the statement, US forces are carrying out additional strikes to stop Iranian attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

"At 5 p.m. ET today, US Central Command forces began launching more strikes against Iran to continue degrading their ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial ships freely transiting the Strait of Hormuz," the post states.

The statement clarified that the order for the strikes was given by the commander-in-chief to “hold Iranian forces accountable.”

Iranian media reported that explosions were heard in southern Iran near the cities of Bandar Abbas and Sirik.

Background

On the night of July 12, Iran completely closed the Strait of Hormuz due to ships allegedly traveling on an unauthorized route. As a result, Iranian forces attacked a container ship, bringing it to a halt.

In response, the US launched a new and third series of strikes against Iran that same night. Later, US Central Command reported that it had struck 140 Iranian military targets.

Toward evening, CENTCOM issued another statement, saying that the Strait of Hormuz remains fully open to civilian vessels. According to the command, maritime traffic continues uninterrupted.
