The US is not abandoning Ukraine, and despite Russia’s intimidation tactics, its diplomats remain in Kyiv. Moreover, Moscow is not winning the war but is suffering massive losses, Democratic US Senator Richard Blumenthal states during a briefing in Kyiv.

The senator debunked several myths about the full-scale war. He emphasized that American diplomats remain in Kyiv and continue to support Ukraine.

"We are not intimidated by Russian threats or abuse; we are not afraid, and the people of Ukraine should in no way be subjected to such intimidation," Blumenthal stressed.

The second myth, he noted, is that Russia is winning. The senator emphasized that this is not the case.

The senator said that Ukraine will achieve victory if it has the means to finish the job, adding that what he had heard over the past few days had strengthened his confidence that Ukraine was indeed moving toward victory.

List of tasks for the US

Blumenthal said he will return to the US with a list of tasks, including long-range weapons, artillery, HIMARS, ATACMS, tanks, F-16s, and necessary types of ammunition. He named air defense as the most important item.

The senator noted what he had seen over the past few days, as well as during all his previous visits, reflected a clear escalation in Putin’s brutality (Russian President Vladimir Putin, - ed.).

He added that at the beginning of the war there was concern that the Kremlin leader would escalate the types of weapons used, but now the world is seeing an escalation in Putin’s brutality: strikes on residential buildings, shopping centers, hospitals, and schools.

Blumenthal emphasized that this criminal behavior should outrage the entire world.

Sanctions against Russia

He stressed that he would fight to bring to completion the sanctions bill aimed at cutting off the revenues currently flowing into Putin’s war machine, which are critical to it, adding that without them Russia would not be able to continue fighting.

The senator said that in the long term, Putin is unable to sustain this war: he is losing 30,000 or more of his troops every month.

Blumenthal said that, according to the trajectory discussed during his talks with the Defense Minister, losses would soon amount to about 200 killed or wounded per kilometer, adding that he is convinced Ukraine is making progress on the battlefield.

The media today circulated a statement by the EU’s chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, who allegedly said that the US embassy was the only one that had left Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry denied this information. Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said that reports about the alleged evacuation of the US embassy from Kyiv are not true.

The US embassy also denied the information about its departure from Ukraine and said it continues to operate.
