US Intelligence Committee calls for immediate assistance to Ukraine after classified meeting
The House Intelligence Committee convened a classified meeting, during which it was briefed on the critical necessity of providing military aid to Ukraine, according to the committee's X account.
"We must pass Ukraine aid now. Today, in a classified briefing, our committee was informed of the critical need to provide Ukraine military aid this week. The United States must stand against Putin's war of aggression now as Ukraine's situation on the ground is critical," the post stated.
The statement was endorsed by the signatures of committee members, Republican Mike Turner and Democrat Jim Himes.
The day before, House Speaker Mike Johnson proposed splitting the previously Senate-backed bill to aid Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. His proposal entails a package of four separate bills, with the fourth including provisions for prioritizing US national security interests, including providing assistance to Ukraine in the form of loans and utilizing frozen Russian assets.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized Johnson's initiative.
Initially, the White House did not embrace it, but later said they wanted to see Johnson's bills before making final conclusions.
Democrats in the House expressed readiness to embrace the speaker's idea.
