The United States is discussing territorial issues with Russia during negotiations about resolving the war in Ukraine. However, there are no agreements with Kyiv regarding territories, says President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting with journalists.

"I think the American side is talking with the Russians about territories. We are concerned that the US should influence Russia, not the other way around," the President noted.

According to Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump has enough power, tools, and sanctions to influence Russian Vladimir Putin and end this war. However, Kyiv is concerned about when the US and Russia discuss something about Ukraine without Ukraine being involved.

"It’s clear that they raise the issue of territories. And there have been no agreements with us regarding territories. They know that this is a painful issue," Zelenskyy added.

The President emphasized that the issue of Ukrainian territories has been and remains one of the most difficult in the process of ending the Russian-Ukrainian war.

"I’ve said this from the very beginning. I believe that the two most difficult issues with the Russians will be a full ceasefire and the issue of territories. So, it will be a difficult dialogue, but it will happen," the head of state said.

Territorial issues

Recently, US President Donald Trump stated that the US and Ukrainian representatives had already discussed many different issues in the framework of a possible peace agreement. In particular, the US President said that during the discussions, they touched on territorial issues.

"You know, we've been discussing concepts of land because you don't want to waste time on a ceasefire if it doesn't mean anything," the President said.

Trump also listed other issues that, according to him, are on the table in negotiations between the US and Russia in Saudi Arabia. According to him, "we are now talking about territory, we are talking about border lines, talking about control, ownership of power plants."
