US imposes sanctions on network enriching Putin's ally in Republic of Srpska
The United States of America today, June 18, imposed sanctions on a network that enriched the President of the Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik. He is an ally of the Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the US Department of the Treasury.
The US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control has imposed sanctions on a network of two individuals and seven legal entities that provide the main sources of income for the President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik and his family.
Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, Brian Nelson said that the United States condemns Dodik's continued efforts to destroy the institutions that have ensured peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
"We will continue to expose the fraudulent schemes that enable Dodik and his family to exploit their own people for their personal benefit,” added the official.
Dodik's attitude to Ukraine
It is worth noting that Milorad Dodik maintains close relations with Russia and has not condemned its aggression against Ukraine. In 2022, he supported the annexation of the occupied territories of Ukraine and later awarded Putin with an order.
Bloomberg also wrote that Russia's influence in the Western Balkans is growing as Bosnia and Herzegovina's accession to the European Union has stalled.
