The United States still has tools to pressure the Russian Federation. Washington has not used all the available resources for this, as stated by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, according to AFP.

"If they are now walking away without using the tools that they have actually in their hands, then my big question mark is, why? Why aren't they using the tools to really end this war?" she said.

According to her, Kyiv and its European allies hope that Washington will take a tougher stance against Moscow before giving up on peace negotiations.

In her opinion, the Easter ceasefire declared by Vladimir Putin was a trick by Russia. In this way, Russia wanted to prevent Trump from "losing patience" with the Kremlin.

"They didn't keep to the truce. I mean, it's clear that Russia is playing all these games and stalling and does not really want peace," Kallas said in an interview.

Easter ceasefire

On the evening of April 19, Putin initiated the so-called "ceasefire," which was announced from 6:00 PM on April 19 to 12:00 AM on April 21 Kyiv time.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russia intensified shelling on the front lines on the morning of April 20. The enemy was most active on the Pokrovsk and Siversk directions of the front.
