US had information on Iran's plans to assassinate Trump - CNN
In recent weeks, the United States received information about Iran's plans to assassinate former US President Donald Trump, according to CNN.
According to the sources, this information led to the US Secret Service strengthening Trump's security.
CNN's interlocutors clarify that there are no signs that Thomas Matthew Crooks, who shot Trump on July 13, was connected with these Iranian plans.
An American official from the US National Security Council told reporters that the Secret Service and Trump's campaign were warned about the threat of a possible assassination attempt.
“Secret Service learned of the increased threat from this threat stream. NSC directly contacted USSS at a senior level to be absolutely sure they continued to track the latest reporting. USSS shared this information with the detail lead, and the Trump campaign was made aware of an evolving threat," he added.
According to him, in response to this threat, the Secret Service has provided additional resources and means to protect Trump.
