France and the United Kingdom have supported the idea of inviting Ukraine to NATO. However, several countries in the Alliance remain opposed, according to Le Monde.

The United States, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Belgium, Slovenia, and Spain are against Ukraine's invitation to NATO.

According to media reports, France and the UK insist on inviting Ukraine to the Alliance. However, US President Joe Biden refuses to make this decision, and his successor, Donald Trump, "has never supported this idea."

Le Monde reports that Trump allegedly suggested postponing Ukraine's NATO membership for at least 20 years.

Prospects of Ukraine's NATO membership

Ukraine considers NATO membership the best guarantee of security; however, some Alliance members, such as Hungary, oppose its accession. At the end of November, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly called to accelerate this process, but the Alliance has not set a timeline or sent an official invitation.

President Zelensky believes that Ukraine's NATO membership will halt the active phase of the war. Meanwhile, the Alliance emphasizes the irreversibility of Ukraine's path to NATO, with further decisions depending, in part, on the position of the United States.
