US announces new $725 million aid package for Ukraine: What's included
The United States has announced a new military aid package for Ukraine worth $725 million, according to Reuters and Voice of America journalist Ostap Yarysh.
According to the Pentagon, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin had a conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umerov. They discussed the dynamics of the ongoing combat and security assistance from the US to Ukraine.
Austin also condemned recent missile and drone strikes targeting Ukraine's civilian infrastructure.
During the conversation, Austin provided Umerov with updated information on further increases in US aid to Ukraine.
The new package includes:
- Munitions for National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS)
- Stinger missiles
- Munitions for countering unmanned aerial systems (c-UAS)
- Munitions for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS)
- 155mm and 105mm artillery shells
- Drones
- Unstable ground mines
- Optically guided and wire-guided TOW missiles (tube-launched)
- Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems
- Small arms and ammunition
- Equipment and munitions for demolition work
- Equipment to protect critical national infrastructure
- Spare parts, support equipment, services, training, and transportation
US aid to Ukraine
Earlier in November, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin announced a new aid package for Ukraine in response to the deployment of North Korean troops to Russia, particularly in the Kursk region.
On November 20, Ukraine received another aid package, which included HIMARS munitions and 155mm and 105mm artillery shells.
Additionally, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the United States would provide a series of military aid packages to Ukraine between October and December, valued at $500 to $750 million.
