US and UK forces strike Houthi targets in Yemen: Media
On the evening of Saturday, November 9, US forces conducted airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen, hitting weapons depots used by militants to attack ships off the country’s coast, according to The Times of Israel and Reuters.
It is reported that strikes targeted warehouses storing advanced weaponry used by terrorists to attack vessels in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea.
The Houthi-run TV channel Al-Masirah reported on Sunday that US and UK forces launched strikes on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, the Amran province, and other areas in the country.
Media outlets and local residents reported that Western forces carried out around nine raids on Sanaa, its suburbs, and the Amran province.
Houthi attacks in Yemen
Since the outbreak of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, militants from Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi Islamist movement have begun targeting commercial vessels passing through the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea. Through these attacks, the militants aim to express solidarity with the Palestinian Hamas movement.
These attacks have disrupted global trade, as shipowners have started redirecting vessels around the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, opting for the longer route around Africa’s southern coast.
In response to the attacks, the US and UK deployed forces to the Middle East and began striking Houthi military and infrastructure sites across Yemen.
In early October, US forces launched a missile strike on the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, and the city of Hodeidah.
In mid-October, US forces again struck Houthi-linked weapon storage facilities in Yemen.
The Houthis have also attempted to attack Western forces and even launched missiles targeting the Israeli capital on one occasion.
