US and Saudi Arabia strike pro-Iran militants in Iraq

The United States, in conjunction with the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces, carried out a series of precision strikes against pro-Iranian militants in Iraq. The operation was a response to attacks that, according to the US side, were coordinated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).
On July 28, US and Saudi fighter jets struck several logistics facilities and weapons depots belonging to terrorist groups in eastern Iraq. These were pro-Iranian groups.
According to the command, these groups were acting on orders from the IRGC and were preparing attacks on US troops and Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure.
CENTCOM states that the joint operation was a decisive response to over 30 drone attacks carried out by Iranian-backed militants over the past 72 hours.
At the same time, US military officials emphasize that none of the attacks on US forces achieved their objectives.
The command also reports that between February and April 2026 alone, Iranian-backed terrorist groups in Iraq carried out more than 600 attempted attacks on US citizens and American facilities.
"The IRGC and its terrorist proxies must cease these attacks to avoid further US military response," CENTCOM emphasizes.
On July 29, Iran launched a ballistic missile at one of the US bases in the Middle East. This is the first attack since the parties ceased hostilities last week.
Before this, US President Donald Trump stated that the US does not rule out a positive outcome to negotiations with Iran, but he added that Washington is also preparing for an alternative scenario if no consensus is reached
