Ukraine has secured a $3.9 billion non-repayable grant from the United States through the World Bank, with the funds earmarked for salaries and social benefits, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

"These funds will help finance priority budget expenditures such as salaries for teachers, healthcare workers, and first responders, as well as social benefits," Shmyhal said.

The Ukrainian Prime Minister added that this is the first tranche of direct budgetary support from the United States in 2024. In total, Ukraine is expected to receive $7.8 billion in direct budgetary assistance from the US this year.

According to Shmyhal, this support will enable Ukraine to confidently navigate the current financial period.

"We thank the United States and the World Bank for their high level of attention and support, which strengthens our resilience in countering Russia's barbaric aggression," Shmyhal said.

US aid to Ukraine

The United States remains one of Ukraine's key Western allies in its confrontation with Russia's aggression. The US government consistently provides military and financial aid to Ukraine.

Earlier this year, the US allocated its largest military aid package to Ukraine, with a total value of $6 billion.
