Ukraine needs the support of all free European countries, and at the moment, there is no more urgent task than this, according to the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu.

She spoke today in Bucharest at the pre-election congress of the European People's Party.

"We are gathered here at a pivotal moment when freedom and democracy throughout Europe are under serious attack. Today, more than ever, we need to preserve courage, leadership, and unity to defend free societies and repel aggression," Sandu said.

The President of Moldova stated that it is time to defend democracy, freedom of choice, and peace.

Support for Ukraine

"We have no time for doubts. Ukraine needs the support of all free European countries. There is no more urgent task than supporting Ukraine and ensuring peace," Sandu emphasized.

She also underscored that Russia wants to influence Moldova. According to her, Russia believes that it is not obligated to consult small countries, and for Russia, the people of Moldova hold no significance in their geopolitical plans.

Sandu further stated that Russia sees Moldova only as lines on a map, but the citizens of Moldova have chosen a different path. And the country needs the support of this choice from Europe.

Support for Moldova

Last year, Moldova sent three batches of humanitarian aid - in February, April, and September - mostly for the needs of the Ukrainian army.

Additionally, in June 2023, Moldova dispatched eight trucks of humanitarian aid worth 200,000 euros to address environmental and humanitarian consequences caused by the destruction of the dam in Nova Kakhovka.

Last year, it was reported that Moldova would join the international register of losses due to Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

During her visit to Ukraine in November last year, Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated that Moldova managed to avoid occupation only thanks to the actions of the Ukrainian military.
