Unknown drones detected near German military base

In January, unidentified drones were spotted six times over a military base in Schweising, Germany. The base is where Ukrainian soldiers are trained, Spiegel reports.
According to an internal report cited by the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the German army detected unidentified drones over the Schweising air base six times in January. Despite the use of special devices, the German military was unable to land the drones or locate the pilots.
The air base in the North Sea is considered a special security zone. German soldiers are training there with Patriot air defense systems. Ukrainian soldiers have also been training there for several months.
The German army suggests that the base was spied on through training on Patriot systems and that Russian intelligence services were involved.
According to an internal report, the Schwesing facility used several devices to combat small drones. One of these devices is the HP47 system, while the other two systems also proved to be ineffective.
This is not the first time that unidentified drones have been spotted over bases where the Ukrainian Armed Forces are training.
In particular, unidentified drones were spotted over the Ramstein military base in Germany in December last year. Drones were also spotted over the facilities of the Rheinmetall defense concern.
In addition, in November 2024, small unmanned aerial vehicles flew over US military bases in Britain.
