Last night, on August 20, an unidentified drone was spotted near Vilnius Airport, which temporarily halted air traffic in Lithuania’s capital, Delfi reports.

“We can confirm that around midnight today we received information from Oro navigacija specialists that a drone was spotted in Vilnius, near the airport,” said airport representative Tadas Vasiliauskas.

According to Vasiliauskas, the airport services implemented additional measures, increasing patrols and monitoring the airspace. Overall, air traffic was suspended for about half an hour. No consequences from the drone’s flight were reported.

Unidentified drones over Baltic states

At the end of July, an unidentified drone was detected in Lithuania’s airspace, likely entering from Belarus. Reports said the drone was last seen at an altitude of around 200 meters near Vilnius.

Earlier, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs reported that a Russian military drone had crashed in the eastern part of Latvia after entering the country’s airspace from Belarus. An investigation was launched in Latvia. According to the President, the number of such incidents on NATO’s eastern flank is increasing.
