According to NewsMaker, the General Inspectorate of Police of Moldova and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of unrecognized Transnistria stated that Oleg Khorzhan, the leader of the unrecognized Transnistrian Communist Party, was found dead. He was shot and may have been robbed.

Initially, the death of Khorzhan was announced by the leader of the Communist Party of Russia, Gennady Zyuganov.

"Today, the leader of the Transnistrian Communist Party, Oleg Khorzhan, died. He was killed at home. We demand an immediate investigation," said Zyuganov.

The death of Khorzhan was also reported by one of the leaders of the Moldovan party "Civic Congress," Mark Tkachuk, who had signed a joint declaration with Khorzhan a week earlier, pledging "to support the preservation of peace and trust in the region."

Statements from representatives of unrecognized Transnistria and Moldova

The General Inspectorate of Police of Moldova and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of unrecognized Transnistria confirmed the information about Khorzhan's death.

"Oleg Khorzhan was found shot in his house, located near Tiraspol," the police reported.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of unrecognized Transnistria claims that Khorzhan's body was found by his wife in one of the rooms, next to an open safe that was found empty. The Investigative Committee of unrecognized Transnistria has initiated a criminal case.

The Reintegration Bureau of Moldova has proposed the creation of a commission under the auspices of the OSCE mission to investigate the murder of Transnistrian communist Oleg Khorzhan.

Less than a year ago, Khorzhan was released from prison

In December 2022, Transnistrian communist Oleg Khorzhan was released from prison, where he had been since 2018 on charges of "violent actions against a government representative."

He held a rally in the central square of Tiraspol, which was not approved by the local authorities. After the rally, several participants, including Khorzhan's son, were detained.
