The first foldable iPhone has received several features that are not available on regular iPhones. A large inner display, a new hinge, and enhanced multitasking capabilities allow users to work with multiple apps at the same time.

The device features a number of exclusive solutions that make it significantly more functional than traditional smartphones.

BGR analyzed the key features of the iPhone Duo.

Titanium body with no visible crease

Developers solved the main problem of foldable smartphones: a noticeable crease in the display.

The body is made of polished Grade 5 titanium, while the hinge features a 3D-printed coating. As a result, the crease in the inner display is barely noticeable and cannot be felt when touched.

In addition, the device is IP68-rated, while the outer display is protected by Ceramic Shield 2, which is three times more scratch-resistant.

First hidden under-display camera

Unlike the outer display, which features a conventional 12-megapixel camera, the inner foldable display hides the FaceTime front camera directly beneath the pixels.

The camera becomes visible only during calls or when taking selfies, leaving the entire large display free for viewing content.

Anti-glare matte display

For the first time in almost 20 years, Apple has added a matte finish to the inner display of a smartphone. It serves several purposes at once:

  • completely eliminates glare in bright sunlight;

  • further conceals the crease and the under-display camera;

  • provides a pleasant tactile feel while scrolling.

Apple Pencil support and hybrid iOS

The iOS 27.1 operating system turns the iPhone Duo into a full-fledged alternative to the iPad.

The device supports the Apple Pencil stylus, allows users to open two apps simultaneously, and adapts the interface to the opening angle.

For example, when partially folded, the lower part of the panel becomes a convenient touch controller or keyboard.

Smart camera modes for the whole family

Even without a dedicated telephoto lens, the iPhone Duo has unique software-based photography features:

Smart Take automatically takes a photo when it detects a good pose, without the need to set a timer.

Duo Preview displays a preview of the shot on the outer screen for the person being photographed.

Kid Cue plays fun Snoopy animations on the outer display to attract children’s attention to the camera.

Duo FaceTime allows callers to be displayed on both screens at the same time.
