UN Security Council convenes important meeting over Russian aggression against Ukraine. Ukrainian delegation calls for decisive international action and support amid escalating conflict, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry says.

Today, the UN Security Council will hold a meeting dedicated to Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine and terror against the civilian population.

The discussion was initiated by France, which currently holds the presidency of the Security Council.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha thanked the French Minister Jean-Noël Barrot for his solidarity and support:

"Ukraine is committed to peace efforts. We agreed to the US proposal for a full ceasefire 49 days ago, but Russia did not. This is a clear indication of who is interested in peace and who wishes to continue the war," he stressed.

Sybiha called on all Security Council member states to clearly express support for Ukraine, condemn Russia's escalation against civilians, and advocate for increased pressure on the Kremlin.

"Defending justice, sovereignty, and peace must be a shared commitment. Ukraine stands strong — and not alone," Sybiha said.

Ukraine recently initiated an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council and a special meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council over Russia's missile strike on Kryvyi Rih on April 4.

As Sybiha noted, 9 children were killed in Russia's ballistic missile strike on Kryvyi Rih last week - the largest number of Ukrainian children killed in a single attack since 2022.
