Umerov and Austin have phone conversation, talk about next Ramstein
On Sunday, December 8, the heads of the defense ministries of the US and Ukraine, Lloyd Austin and Rustem Umerov, held a phone call. The two sides discussed the planning of the next Ramstein meeting, according to the Pentagon's website.
According to Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder, the ministers discussed the latest developments on the battlefield and US assistance in Ukraine's security sector.
"Secretary Austin updated Minister Umerov on US security assistance to provide the capabilities Ukraine needs to fight Russian aggression," Ryder said.
Additionally, the representatives of both nations discussed planning for the next meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and further robust support for Ukraine from international partners.
The defense chiefs also pledged to maintain close communication.
A week ago, Austin and Umerov also discussed preparations for the upcoming Ramstein meeting.
In November, Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov emphasized the importance of the Ramstein format. He expressed hope that Ukraine's support under the administration of US President Donald Trump would continue.
