More than half of Ukrainians (53%) categorically oppose any territorial concessions to Russia, while 33% are willing to accept territorial losses, according to a poll by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).

During the poll, respondents were asked about possible compromises to end the war in Ukraine.

They were asked whether they support Ukraine's ceding territory to achieve peace as quickly as possible and preserve independence, or whether this should not be done under any circumstances, even if the war drags on and threatens the country's independence.

The poll findings indicated that 53% of citizens are categorically opposed to territorial concessions to the aggressor state, 33% are generally willing to accept certain territorial losses, and 14% had no opinion.

An overwhelming majority of Ukrainians (66%) oppose the transfer of Ukrainian-controlled territories to Russia, and only 18% of respondents expressed their readiness to take such a step.

A scenario in which the front line is frozen without official recognition of the occupied territories as part of Russia is acceptable to 39% of respondents. However, 50% of surveyed Ukrainians categorically reject this option.

As a reminder, hopes for peace in Ukraine are growing: one-third of Ukrainians believe 2026 will be more peaceful, another third expect the situation to remain unchanged, and the remaining third expect it to worsen.
