Ukrainian defenders have managed to destroy a North Korean-made Koksan artillery system for the first time since the start of the war, according to the Khortytsia Operational-Strategic Grouping of Troops on Telegram.

"For the first time since the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war, a North Korean Koksan self-propelled artillery system has been struck," the military statement reads.

The Operational-Strategic Grouping of Troops clarified that the enemy system was destroyed in the Luhansk region by fighters of the Nemesis 412th Separate Drone Systems Regiment.

What is known about the Koksan SPG

According to Ukrainian military sources, the firing range of this self-propelled gun (SPG) is 43 kilometers with a high-explosive shell and 54-60 kilometers with an extended-range projectile.

This system can fire two shots within five minutes. It is operated by a crew of eight (a driver-mechanic, a commander, a gunner, and five loaders/ammunition handlers).

The first recorded use of this SPG by Russian forces was in October 2024.

Earlier, at the end of January, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, stated that Russia depends on SPG supplies from North Korea, specifically the Koksan units.

According to him, Russia is experiencing a shortage of heavy artillery.
