The Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft law aimed at improving the social protection of conscripted servicemen and their families, states government representative to the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk.

Who falls under the law’s provisions:

  • servicemen of basic military service (a new category);
  • conscripts who remain in service — those in captivity, undergoing treatment, missing in action, in disciplinary units, or in military detention;
  • family members of such servicemen;
  • families of those killed or deceased.

What the draft law provides

The new draft law extends a basic protection package to the mentioned categories:

  • leave entitlement;
  • pension provision;
  • unemployment assistance;
  • state insurance.

The draft law also provides for leave for servicemen released from captivity. This leave will be granted even if martial law is not in effect.

There will also be a six-day workweek with one day off for:

  • cadets of higher military education institutions;
  • attendees of military training units;
  • students of specialized pre-higher military education.
