Ukraine’s No. 3-ranked player and the world No. 46, Daria Snigur, continues her impressive run at the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing. In the third round, she produced one of the most convincing performances of the tournament, cruising past Australia’s Talia Preston, according to the match result.

WTA 1000. Beijing. Round of 32

Daria Snigur (Ukraine) – Talia Preston (Australia) – 6-1, 6-0

Left her opponent no chance

Snigur and Preston (WTA No. 91) had never faced each other before, but their first meeting was completely dominated by the Ukrainian. The third-round match lasted just 48 minutes.

Snigur immediately seized control in the opening set. She held serve in the first game, then broke Preston twice to take a 5-0 lead. The Australian managed to win one game, but Snigur immediately served out the set, 6-1.

The second set turned into a complete rout. The Ukrainian broke Preston in the opening game and then added two more breaks. Preston never managed to win a game, as Snigur closed out the set 6-0.

A new milestone for the Ukrainian

The victory sent Snigur into the round of 16 at a WTA 1000 tournament for the first time in her career. She also became the first Ukrainian player to reach this stage at this year’s Beijing tournament.

Snigur now faces a much tougher challenge. Her next opponent will be world No. 5 Mirra Andreeva, who is competing as a neutral athlete.

It will be only the second time in Snigur’s career that she has faced a player ranked in the world’s top five. In April, the Ukrainian played Iga Swiatek at the Madrid tournament and lost.

Earlier, another Ukrainian, Dayana Yastremska, was eliminated in Beijing. Elina Svitolina remains in the tournament and will face Greece’s Maria Sakkari on October 5.
