Ukrainian swimmer makes history with European gold and national record

Ukrainian swimmer Nikita Sheremet set a new Ukrainian national record in the men's 50-meter freestyle and won the gold medal on the final day of the European Aquatics Championships, reports Sport RBC.UA, citing the competition results.
How Nikita Sheremet performed
The Ukrainian swimmer completed the distance in 21.13 seconds, setting a new national record in the 50-meter freestyle. He finished ahead of neutral athlete Egor Kornev and Serbia's Andrej Barna, who both posted a time of 21.37.
Another Ukrainian representative, Vladyslav Bukhov, finished fifth, just 0.2 seconds behind the bronze medalist. Bukhov's time in the event was 21.58.
Ukrainian national record in 50-meter freestyle
Nikita Sheremet swam the distance in 21.38 seconds in the semifinal, matching the Ukrainian national record previously set by Vladyslav Bukhov.
Notably, 19-year-old Sheremet won a European Championship gold medal in a 50-meter pool for the first time in his career. He had previously won the same event held in a 25-meter pool.
