The Russians opened fire on Ukrainian prisoners of war near the village of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. Law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation into the violation of laws and customs of war, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General.

On February 20, a video surfaced online showing the shooting of three Ukrainian defenders taken prisoner by Russian army servicemen.

The incident reportedly occurred on February 18, 2024, near the village of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.

An investigation has been initiated

The killing of prisoners of war constitutes a grave violation of the Geneva Conventions and qualifies as a serious international crime.

A criminal investigation has been launched for violations of laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder.

Pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Zaporizhzhia region.

The shooting of prisoners in Avdiivka

Earlier, it became known that Russian military personnel shot six captured Ukrainian soldiers during the withdrawal from the Zenit position in Avdiivka.

At the same time, Brigadier General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, commander of the Tavria operational-strategic group, stated that the Defense Forces were withdrawing from the Zenit position on the outskirts of Avdiivka.

According to him, the decision to withdraw was made to preserve personnel and improve the operational situation.

Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross and the UN to investigate the circumstances of the shooting of soldiers executed by Russians during the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Avdiivka.
