Ukrainian Power Company asks Ukrainians to conserve electricity
Ukrainian National Power Company "Ukrenergo" continues to ask Ukrainians to conserve electricity during the so-called "peak" hours from 16:00 to 23:00. Despite a decrease in maximum consumption on August 9, the call for energy-saving measures remains in effect.
"We ask to continue conserving electricity, especially during peak load periods from 16:00 to 23:00," the message stated.
The company noted that on August 8, the heat subsided, leading to an immediate 4% reduction in maximum consumption.
"This is as much electricity as two power units of power plants can produce. They didn't need to be put into operation yesterday. That is a vivid example of how heat affects the energy system's operation," "Ukrenergo" added.
What "Ukrenergo" is asking to do
- Replace air conditioning with more energy-efficient fans. If not possible, cool rooms no lower than 23°C.
- Turn off powerful electrical appliances or use them sequentially.
- Shift usage of devices to morning or night hours, where possible (washing machine, dishwasher, boiler).
- Turn off lights when leaving a room.
The electricity supply situation in Ukraine
As of Wednesday, August 9 morning, the maximum electricity consumption in Ukraine decreased by 4% due to the decrease in heat. This is a significant indicator, equivalent to the capacity of almost two thermal power units that did not need to be additionally activated. However, the need for energy conservation remains unchanged. Before this, "Ukrenergo" had asked for energy conservation on July 5.
