A 51-year-old Ukrainian man was stabbed in Berlin. Unknown attackers overheard him speaking and then asked about his nationality, reports the Berlin police.

According to preliminary information, at around 6:40 AM local time, the 51-year-old was walking his dog in the Charlottenburg-Nord district of Berlin.

During the walk, he gave commands to the dog in Ukrainian. Two unknown men heard him speaking. This led to an incident.

"He stated that he had given the dog commands in Ukrainian and was then questioned by two unknown men about his nationality. When he replied that he was Ukrainian, one of the two allegedly stabbed him in the stomach with a knife," the police said.

The police added that the attackers fled after the incident. A specialized police unit has taken over the investigation.

Emergency services were called to the scene and took the injured man to a hospital. Reports say his life is not in danger.

More than a year ago, on June 10, 2024, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, an Afghan man attacked a Ukrainian woman with a knife.

The attack happened during the day. The woman was sitting on a bench in a park when a 19-year-old man quietly approached her. He grabbed her by the shoulder and stabbed her several times in the head and neck with a utility knife.

The woman was seriously injured as a result.
