Six ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet were destroyed by a Ukrainian Magura V5 maritime drone. Such effectiveness is explained by its virtual invisibility to thermal imagers and radars due to the peculiarities of its design, according to the commander of the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence's Group-13 special unit.

"The reconnaissance ship Ivan Khurs, the landing craft Akula and Serna, the missile ship Ivanovets, the large landing ship Tsezar Kunikov, and the patrol ship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet Sergei Kotov all went down thanks to Ukrainian Magura V5 maritime drones," the DIU says.

The commander of the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence's special unit Group-13, call-signed Trynadtsiatyi (Thirteenth in Ukrainian - ed), says that Magura V5 does not emit much heat, so it is almost invisible to thermal imaging cameras.

"It's made of plastic, so even radar can hardly see it," he says.

According to the scout, the hunt for the Russian invaders' warship can last for days. Operators have to remain focused all the time.

"The most difficult target so far has been Sergei Kotov. Group-13 attacked and damaged it twice, but managed to sink it only on the third attempt," says Thirteenth.

Ukrainian Armed Forces destroy Russian ships

On March 5, a unit of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine attacked the Russian ship Sergei Kotov using surface drones.

As a result of the attack by Magura V5 maritime drones, the ship sustained damage to the stern, starboard, and port sides. RBC-Ukraine sources reported that a helicopter was on board the ship at the time of the attack. It was probably a Ka-27.

This is not the first loss of the Russian Navy in the Black Sea. According to Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk, amid the losses, the Russians keep a minimum of warships in the ports of Crimea. Only vessels that the occupiers consider less valuable are based there.
